Mono vision

I'm scheduled for Epi-Lasek.My rx is OD. -4.00-.50 x 125
OS -5.50-.50 x 022

My surgeon strongly feels I should have an under correction of -.50 in
my non-dominate left eye to help with intermediate vision. I'm 51 and
realize I'll need some reading/progressive glasses etc. Do you think this
under correction is a good idea?

Monovision is an acceptable method to reduce the need for reading glasses, however it is not appropriate for all people. The only way to know is to experience it.

What is probably the best method is to try monvision with contact lenses before you have surgery. A trial of a few weeks will let you know if you tolorate monovision well.

Your surgeon could undercorrect you and then do a enhancement surgery later, but that requires a second surgery with its associated risk. The contact lens trial may delay your surgery for a bit, but seems prudent. Please read our articles about monovision and sudden presbyopia. They will be very important to you.
