does anyone know if having a previous corneal ulcer from wearing contacts and getting an eye infection cause any problems with lasik eye surgery?

what about if you get a cold before your surgery?

You should not have elective eye surgery when you are ill. A cold is a virus and a virus can affect eyes, ears, nose, throat, etc. The meds commonly used for a cold can cause dehydration of the cornea, which can lead to the laser removing more cornea than normal and resulting in an overcorrection. If there any problems after surgery, such as dry eye, it will be difficult to determine if the cause is the cold or if the cause is related to surgery.

A history of eye infection that leads to corneal ulcer is a concern, but may not exclude you from having Lasik or similar laser eye surgery. The location of the ulcer may be problematic for correction. You may be susceptible to infection. There are many patients who have a history of infection and ulceration due to contact lens misuse or intolerance who have successful refractive surgery, but be sure to provide details about your history to any potential surgeon. This is a question that only a competent doctor can answer after a comprehensive examination.
