Visx v Allegretto

Postby diver110 » Thu Jan 18, 2007 9:21 pm

I have searched the site a bit and got some info about these two lasers. I gather it often does not make a difference which one you use, but it seems to me one would always prefer a laser surgery customized for one's own eye (i.e. Visx) versus one that is not (i.e. Allegretto). Am I missing something?

Be sure to read our article on Custom Wavefront Lasik.

You are correct that it may not make any difference if you use customized wavefront-guided ablation (Visx CustomVue, Alcon CustomCornea, Bausch & Lomb Zyoptix) or a wavefront-optimized with the Allegretto. The best way to know is to have a wavefront diagnostic to see if your higher order aberrations are unusually elevated and wavefront-guided would be a requirement (or perhaps no surgery at all), or if wavefront-guided is just an option.

Allegretto now has wavefront-guided custom ablation available too.
