refractive error

Postby bada5150 » Wed Jan 31, 2007 5:29 am

Hi I have been reading many different topics and found out that everyone seems to know their refractive error after surgery. My lasik center didn't mention anything about refractive error on my eyes. I had first check up after surgery and they just simply did test where I read chart.

My questions are:
1. Do they know my refractive errors? Do I have to ask my doc?

2. Dry eye question, is there any dry eye test that show how dry eyes are?

Thank you in advance.

They probably do not. Unless you did a manifest refraction (which is better, one or two?) then they would not have a current prescription. This is common if the patient tests well with the Snellen 20/whatever chart.

There are two. The Shirmer test will check tear quantity. The tear breakup test will check tear quality. There are others, but these are the most commonly performed. You may want to read our article about Lasik dry eye issues.
