prk enhancement after lasik?

Postby artmo » Thu Mar 08, 2007 7:55 pm

had lasik 5 or 6 yrs. ago in toronto.had an enhancement about 6 mos. later on left eye.never really happy with the enhancement. function ok,but nite driving and smaller roadsigns are sometimes a problem.can read just fine with no eyeglasses.would really like to get the left one tweaked again if that is possible. corneal thickness would probably(?) preclude a second lasik enhancement. would i be a viable candidate for lasik? am 64. in excellent health.had no problems with initial lasik and subsequent enhancement. thanks in advance! art

It is possible to measure how much of your cornea remains untouched and determine if Lasik enhancement surgery would be appropriate. If not, it may be possible to have PRK on the Lasik flap.

You may want to consider Refractive Lens Exchange (RLE) as an alternative to Lasik enhancement or similar cornea-based surgery. RLE is exactly the same as cataract surgery, but for refractive purposes.

Consider too that removing residual myopia (nearsighted, shortsighted) vision may make near vision more difficult. Read Sudden Presbyopia for details. You may want to consider monovision correction.

A comprehensive evaluation from a competent eye doctor will indicate what options may be appropriate.
