CLAPIKS for myopia

Postby jimbo » Thu Aug 09, 2007 9:03 pm

Can CLAPIKS be used to treat residual myopia after lasik, or is it just for overcorrections? Does it only work soon after surgery? Are there any techniques on the horizon for correcting small refractive errors for which an enhancement would be too risky?

CLAPIKS is a form of Orthokeratoloty that can make minor corrections in refractive error. The effect can be long lasting, but not permanent. CLAPIKS uses a topical medicine to help make the cornea more pliable. It can correct myopia (nearsighted, shortsighted), hyperopic (farsighted, longsighted), and astigmatism.

To my knowlege there are no medical devices in the process of approval that would be more appropriate than current technology for the correction of small refractive error.
