Lost eyelids after lasik suregery

Postby ldulock » Sun Jul 19, 2009 11:48 pm

I had lasik 5 mos ago. Eyes were swollen and looked very hurt for 3 mos. then they were down and my deep set eyelids were loose skin hanging to my lashes. Don't know what could have happened. Now have to have eyelid surgery and don't like my vision either. I am 63 yr old female. Anyone know what went wrong, or did my eyelids just decide to sag at the same time as surgery. Depressed! :( :( :? :?

It may be that you had a very unusual reaction to the steroids commonly used after Lasik. They can cause eyelid ptosis, which is what you are describing. Normally ptosis would resolve with healing time, but it appears that was not your situation. There are case reports of ptosis after Lasik, but very few.

This may be trying to make lemonaide out of lemons, but the blephoplasty that you will have, and that should be covered under your medical insurance, will likely make your eyes look younger. I recomend that you seek an evaluation from an ocular plastics specialist, rather than a general ophthalmologist.

Also, ask your surgeon if s/he would be willing to submit your unusual outcome to the medical journals for publication. Others may learn from your experiences.
