Intralase Merger

Postby DryEye » Sun Jan 14, 2007 6:39 pm

What are your thoughts on the merger of Intralase and the coming of the phasing out of the microkeratome method? Could one who had a microkeratome blade procedure utilize the intralase method if need be down the road?

Reports of the end of the mechanical microkeratome are a bit premature. Although a Lasik flap created with a femtosecond laser (All-Laser Lasik) has its advantages, the majority of the studies that show the effectiveness and relative safety of Lasik are based upon the use of a mechanical microkeratome.

The purchase of one medical device manufacturer by another medical device manufacturer commonly has no effect upon the effectiveness of either company's medical devices.
