Hi Glenn,

My husband picked up some Systane eye drops for me at the store but by mistake he picked up a 15ml bottle of Systane eye drops instead of the preservative-free vials. I noticed after I opened it that it has a preservative in it called polyquatimium-1. I was wondering if that would harm or irritate my eyes if I was to go ahead and use it? I've had enough problems after have lasik so I don't want to add to the problems in any way. Thanks for your advice.

Preservatives used in artificial tears can irritate the eyes and/or cause dryness. You may want to store that bottle to use later or for those in the household who are not recovering from eye surgery. For now you will be well advised to use only preservative-free tears.
