Help!

Postby Tom » Mon Jun 22, 2009 4:44 pm

I had Lasik 12 days ago. I went to a well reputed specialist with lots of experience and the most up to date techniques and equipment.

My right eye is great and the small amount of redness there was has almost cleared up.

My left eye was very red after the procedure and while it's calmed down a little it still seems quite inflamed and a lot redder than the left eye.

The strange and rather concerning thing to me is that I can see really well through the 'less red' right eye, however, my left 'more red' eye is blurry at all distances, although I notice the discrepancy most when I'm working at a computer or under fluorescent light.

My eyesight was tested the day after the procedure and I have 20/20 eye in both eyes, but my left eye is just not as clear as my right and I commented on that at the test. It's as if I have a dirty contact lens in my left eye and a clean one in my right eye.

I went back to the specialist a few days ago and he said that the flap is healing well and that it's early days yet so I should just wait and see. He also indicated that it was perhaps a matter of perception.

I have followed the doctors orders to a T and I use all the lubricating drops etc, but so far no change.

Has anyone else experienced this problem? If you have, what was the outcome and how long did it take for things to improve?

Many, many have experienced what you are experiencing. Redness, inflammation, reduced vision quality, vision quality different from one eye to the other, and a doctor saying it is all a part of the normal healing processes. Considering you are less than two weeks out from microsurgery on your eyes, it probably is all part of the normal healing process.

The numbers are on your side (see Lasik Results), but keep your doctor informed, continue your treatment regimen, and expect things to settle down in the coming weeks.

Is there generally a correlation between redness and healing? i.e if one of your eyes was red and the other was not, would you expect the redder of the two eyes to reach optimal vision after the eye that had already cleared. I ask because it is my 'red eye' that is blurry and my 'non-red' eye which is clear. Is there a correlation between redness and clarity?

Not necessarily. The redness may be due to a reaction to the meds (yes, one eye can react differently), dry eye, or other issues that only affect the one eye and have little to do with vision recovery.
