Rubbing your eyes after Lasik

Postby Betty39 » Mon Nov 20, 2006 11:21 pm

I was wondering if after lasik you can ever really rub your eyes vigerously again. I miss that. I thought that once you were healed you could rub your eyes again, but now with what I'm reading about the flap never really healing I'm wondering?
Also, does that flap ever heal completely like before you ever had lasik or are you forever changed. If that is the case, the doctor never told me that.

No one should every rub their eyes vigorously. It releases free radicals.

The Lasik flap does heal, but not like a cut on your arm. There is always a difference at the interface, however the flap is not likely to be dislodged by normal eye rubbing.

What are free radicals? I used to rub my eyes before. What do they do to you?

Everybody rubs their eyes. The concern is if it is too vigorous or too often. Here is an article on free radicals you may find interesting.
