where to get second opinion?

Postby chrissy2282 » Mon Jan 29, 2007 6:44 pm

Can you just go to any other lasik surgeon and ask for a second opinion?? I thought that most places won't see you if you had lasik done somewhere else. I really am considering a second opnion b/c i feel that I am going in circles. I am currently being treated for dry eyes but when I asked what was the cause of my starbursts, the doc. said it was b/c there was very very little refractive error left. I think it was like -.16 in one eye and -.26 in the other. When the doc. prescribed me with prescription for glasses, the prescription was -.50 in each eye and -.25 astigmatism in each eye but the starbursts were still there and still very bad at night. I just want to put my mind at ease and make sure that there are no significant problems that are just not being told to me.

Very often other Lasik doctors will accept new patients who have had previous surgery, however for second opinions I suggest contacting the ophthalmology department at a university affiliated teaching hospital. A teaching hospital is likely to have doctors knowledgeable in most, if not all, ophthalmic sub-specialties so no matter what may be the problem (cornea, retina, vitreous, refractive surgery, dry eye) you are most likely to get the information you need at one place.

So going to a corneal specialist at a major university hospital is possibly better than going to one of the 5 or 10 major refractive/lasik surgeons that are located throughout the country? The ones who have done the most and were one of the first to do lasik and/or that deal with post lasik issues?

thanks for the info. I just did some research and found out that there is a university hospital near by and they actually even perform lasik. I will have to give them a call.

Be sure to let us know what the second opinion doctor says.
