iregular cornea

Postby bada5150 » Wed Feb 07, 2007 8:15 pm

Hi Glenn,
Is there difference between iregular cornea and astigmatism?

Are they are same thing? If so then, iregular cornea can be resolved during 6 months period?

Thank you

Astigmatism is when the cornea is not spherical like the top of a ball, but is elliptical like the back of a spoon. This is an irregularity. Irregular astigmatism would be like many spoons pointed in different directions. Corneal irregularities are quite common during the healing stage after surgery because there can be localized edema (swelling) and localized dryness. As the eye heals it works to resolve these irregularities.
