Turning a Corner

Postby Betty39 » Mon Mar 19, 2007 3:47 am

Okay, I haven't wanted to say too much cause I am afraid to jinx myself. But I am feeling pretty pleased because I can definitely tell I have turned a corner in my healing thanks to the Restasis. I still feel dry sometimes but it is definitely improved from before I began the drops. I use the gel at night still but aside from the Restasis in the morning and night I only use the tears about 2 or 3 times during the day. This is soooo much better than where I was. I feel like I can live again. And I have only been on Restasis I think about 5 weeks. So when the full effectiveness comes in I think I should be a very happy camper.
The corneal specialist is definitely worth the money I have spent on him.
I am a little peeved that the doctor that did my surgery let me suffer 4 months and didn't just put me on Restasis from the beginning. I don't understand it. And when I asked his lasik coordinator she told me I could have bought it over the counter as I said in my other post (DUH!). So I don't know why he didn't put me on it sooner. I would ask him but they never let you talk to him on the phone and now I am wondering if I should even ever go back to him. I have an appt. next month but since I have been seeing the corneal specialist I wonder if I need to keep that appt? I really don't have a lot of faith in the other doctor. He gave me amazing vision so I know he is capable in that area. But the follow-up care left me feeling neglected and confused. I'm not sure if I will keep my appointments with him for the duration of the first year.
Anyway, Restasis is amazing, I'm feeling better and hopefully it only gets better from here.

I'm glad to hear that you are making good progress.

Just to clarify: Restasis is prescription only, and is not available over-the-counter.

Absolutely! Your surgeon needs to see the results of the treatment you received through the corneal specialist. He will learn from your experience (well, hopefully) and the next patients will benefit. The cornea specialist has probably provided a summary of diagnosis and treatment to your surgeon already. That is common practice.

Okay then, I will go.
And I am going to ask him again why he never put me on Restasis. That seems really odd to me.

Thanks for all your support Glenn :)
