Is Intralase better?

Postby Pink » Tue Jul 10, 2007 9:27 pm

Hi again,

Another question...what is the advantage of Intralase over all other Lasik procedures? One doctor here uses Intralase and charges $1K more than the the other doctor who only uses the conventional lasik surgeries that have been performed for years.

I am going on Thursday for a check up so I don't have any clue what lasik surgery I will need.

Should I worry about any of the older lasik procedures if that's the only procedure offered to me?

It's debatable, becuase some very good doctors swear by one or the other, and some even say their is really no difference.

I will tell you that when I had my eyes examined by a corneal specialist, he was very happy to hear I had the Intralase procedure, and commented that it was, "The best possible thing I could have done".

I would say, find a good doctor, and then use whatever they recommend.
If the creation of the flap and issues regarding how it is made are a big concern for you, there is always the surface ablation alternative. I personally think that's a better option. It's difficult short term, but the long term benefits are superior.
