Hairs stuck in eye, constantly

I had lasik in Jan of 06. About 6 months after and through some moderate dry eye I was developing mucus bumps on the inside of the eyelid. Every once in a while these would come out and get stuck far up in the eyelid. It seems to me like these would get stuck there enough to make my eyelid give a little and allow other objects to be stuck. Now hairs are the BIG problem. I have eyelashes, hair from my head, hair from the dogs, anything that can find its way in there, just stays. The hairs seem to stay near an inch from where my eyelashes meet when closed, way up in the top part of my eye. I use saline, tears, all sorts of drops all the time trying to wash them out. I do have some success from time to time, even getting up to 5 hairs/eyelashed out in one day, while still feeling more in there! I always have a mirror, small light and a wet q-tip at the ready in case a hair comes where I can get it.
I ran this by my doctor who said he's never seen anything like it. He flipped my eyelid and then told me it must be mucus strands because my eye must still be dry. I told him they were definitely hairs and he didn't seem to believe me.
Any ideas on this? I would love to have the problem GO AWAY!

We get all sorts of things in our eyes all the time, but a healthy tearing and blinking system washes it away. It appears that your tearing system is compromised and needs more attention than has been provided by your surgeon. You may want to read our article about dry eye treatment, but it seems a visit to your general physician plus a dry eye specialist would be appropriate.

I appreciate the response. I think I will schedule a visit to my general physician. I hope he will be able to help me find a good dry eye specialist to refer me to. My eye doctor was unattentive to anything really other than my vision. Thank you.
