burning sore eyes

Postby GeneralPatientInquiry » Wed May 31, 2006 6:22 am

I had lasik surgery 5 days ago and my eyes are burning and very sore. I was diagnosed with meibomian gland dysfunction, and treated with doxycycline, soaks and rystasis, for three months prior to surgery and now I am afraid that I should not have had the surgery. The dr. has expressed the glands several time pre and post surgery. Will this horrible dry sensation go away? Thanks, Elayne k.

Elayne,

Meibomian gland dysfunction can be chronic and never go away, but the amount that your LASIK has exacerbated the situation will undoubtedly resolve with healing. We have a detailed article on Dry Eye Treatment at http://www.complicatedeyes.org/dry_eye_treatment.htm. Perhaps there is something there that will be helpful.
