how well do you adjust to monovision

I have to have cataract surgery and am deciding between new multifocal lenses or monovision. I hear that Lasik is doing monovision now so you have distance in one eye and reading in the other. wondering how you adjust to that if you have not worn glasses for that before. anyone?

My LASIK surgeon had me wear contacts for one week to see if I could get used to a small amount of monovision...I couldn't.

A friend of mine did the contact route for four weeks, each week the doctor changed them just a bit and it worked great. She then had LASIK with monovision.

To me my vision seemed slightly off or a bit out of focus. I was not able to adjust and use one eye for distance and one to focus on up close. My friend said it just took her a couple of days and she was fine. My doc says some people can adjust to it almost right away and others can't no matter how long they try...I fall into the latter category.

I think I remember reading somewhere that only 60% of the people who try monovision are succesful.

I wore soft contacts for a year with monovision. Left eye close up, right eye far away. A little blurry for distance, but it worked GREAT! My brain really integrated it well, I wasn't aware of using one eye or another, they just blended. I asked my surgeon to replicate this with lasik. I'm 5 days out and can't see. It's blurry. I can't even see dirt on my floor, or my scale. Your Mileage May Vary.

4 weeks as of Thursday.

Still can't see without a ton of eye drops in.
