Ophthonix Introduces iZon Wavefront Progressive Lenses

New customized wavefront progressive lenses for eye glasses offer high definition vision near, far and in-between.

Wavefront-guided iZon Progressives are customized bifocal lenses made to a patient’s unique iPrint (the optical fingerprint) including high order aberrations.

SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 11, 2006--Ophthonix, a company producing "high definition" vision technology that provides consumers with superior optical clarity and crispness compared to any other available vision correction, introduced the customized iZon Progressive Lens at the recent Vision Expo International held in New York City. The iZon brand is the only PAL (Progressive Addition Lens) in which the correction is actually programmed into the lens for full customization and vision optimization.

Customized individually for each order received, the new iZon Progressive Lens is a transformational advance over existing progressive lenses. The iZon Progressive is programmed to include the patient's unique optical fingerprint, or iPrint(TM), as measured by the Ophthonix Z-View Aberrometer. The iPrint covers all potential refractive errors, including the higher order aberrations which are associated with overall lack of crispness in vision. Other technologies used in PALs do not address the optical fingerprint and, as a result, the higher order aberrations are not corrected leaving the patient with sub-optimal vision. Ophthonix actually programs the iPrint correction into its proprietary iZonik(TM) material on a point-for-point basis, thereby changing the progressive index of the Lens. The customized solution of the iZon Progressives also provides maximum latitude in patient frame selection and lifestyle needs as they are not restricted by the static designs of competitive PALs.

"Our approach to customizing the iZon Progressive begins by defining the patient needs and then producing the lens based upon those needs, whereas other PAL brands attempt to force a patient into a specific, static design," noted Andreas Dreher, Ph.D., president and CEO of Ophthonix. "We are able to do this because we work with the patient's unique iPrint, which is programmed into the iZon Progressives, something untenable with other current technologies," added Dreher. He continued, "As a result, patients wearing iZon Progressives see in high definition, day or night, whether for reading or distance."

iZon Progressive power ranges include: Sphere: -6.00D +4.00D in 0.01D steps. Cylinder: -4.00D in 0.01D steps. Add: +0.75D to +3.50D in 0.25D steps. The iZon Progressive is a "fully loaded" lens including 1.6 high index base with variable index iZonik, hard coating, super hydrophobic AR coating, and finishing.

"We've designed the iZon Progressive to the fit the needs of a patient's lifestyle and in fact, provide improvements," said Dr. Dreher. "It's what consumers and practitioners have come to expect."

Eye Care Practitioners should contact Ophthonix for availability in their area.
