ROCHESTER, N.Y., MAR. 20 2006, Bausch & Lomb Inc., a maker of
contact lenses and solution, said Monday that the Food and Drug
Administration approved its 100 Hertz excimer laser for Lasik vision
correction.
The company said the 217z100 laser will be used as part of the
company's Zyoptix personalized laser vision correction system in
refractive surgery. The laser operates at twice the speed of the
Bausch & Lomb system currently on the market in the United States,
in both standard and custom modes.
The laser is expected to become commercially available by July,
the company said.
