few nervous questions...

I've been thinking about lasik and have been to a few eye doctors for screenings. All have said they would do it. About 5 years ago I had an eye dr. tell me that he didnt think that anyone would ever touch my eyes with lasik.. The problem is that my eyes are very different. My eye script is -4.00 +50 axis 89 in my right eye and +2.25 +1.25 axis 131 in my left eye. So basically I am nearsighted in one eye and farsighted in the other with astigmatism in both.

I think I have decided to go to a dr. at the lasik vision institute, but im still very nervous. They recommended me get the custom lasik. Also, is it necessary to pay for the assurance plan for enhancements? They have 1 year, 3 year, and lifetime assurance plans. Also, should I pay the extra money for the punctal plugs?

If you have any signs of dry eye and need punctal plugs do not do this surgery.

J - just for comparisons sake, here is my experience. I went to the surgeon recommended by my optometrist. The surgeon is also a corneal specialist, so I knew I was going to a very good and experienced surgeon. He was also VERY expensive. But, included in the price was 1 year follow up, which included any enhancements if necessary. My surgeon also decided on a case-by-case basis if he thought patients needed punctal plugs. There was not an extra cost for the plugs. He did insert the plugs for me which I think helped keep me from having dry eye problems. I have since had them removed. A friend of mine went to him and he did not insert the plugs. She had some minor problems with dry eye that resolved on their own within a month or so of her surgery.

It just sounds to me like the place you are considering going to is nickle and dimeing people with charging extra for things that other surgeons just include in the price of the surgery.
