Certified VISX Trainer

Postby 300wsm » Fri Oct 09, 2009 8:55 pm

I am looking at a couple of places here in the twin cities area. Doc 1 says he's a certified visx trainer. While the other guy...call him doc 2 is just visx certified. Does that mean the same thing? Also doc 2 is also certified on a B&L Zyoptix. Since he's certified one two does that make him better? Thanks.

Certification by a laser manufacturer means the surgeon took a course from the manufacturer on how to use the excimer laser, which is the laser used for Lasik, PRK, Epi-Lasik, All-Laser Lasik, etc, and completed one human patient. This course may be as short as a weekend. Certification by the laser manufacturer is a requirement to use that laser, but is not a very impressive accomplishment.

A certified Visx trainer is a person who teaches other doctors how to use the laser in that weekend course. All laser manufacturers seek well-known and well-respected surgeons to teach others. Being a doctor who teaches other doctors is an important consideration, but there are other considerations. About 49 others. See our 50 Tough Questions For Your Lasik Doctor.
