Who are the best Lasik surgeons?

I am curious but is there a ranking and rating of Lasik Surgeons in the US? If so, who are the top docs? If I go for a second opinion, I will go to them and I don't care about travel, time or money. I only have one set of eyes.

You really need to research to figure that out. Find the guys who have the lowest complication rate, plus have very good reputation among patients, and those who are the most respected by there peers and colleges. I live in Southern California, and just the nature of Southern California and everything it has to offer, naturally attracts some of the top doctors in the world, including Lasik doctors. If you want to PM me, I could give you a list of about 5 names of the guys who in my research are the best in So Cal and who are world renowned. I think one, maybe two of them are certified on this site. However the two I consider to be number 1 and 2 are not.

I would recommend a top corneal specialist for a second opinion, but if you're determined to have your second opinion with another Lasik surgeon, then I would suggest making two appointments. One with a top corneal specialist and one with a top Lasik doctor. If you can combine the two and find a corneal specialist who is also a top Lasik doctor, then all the better.

Just curious, I assume you don't seek out doctors to become certified on your site, but just the opposite. Doctors come you to you trying to get certified. Approximately what percentage of doctors do you have to turn down because they don't meet your standards for certification?

We don't provide an exact percentage, but we have refused to certify doctors based on not meeting our criteria and we have de-certified doctors who non longer met our criteria. We re-evaluate certified doctors every quarter.

I found through my research that one is in Kansas and part of this site.
I visited with him and found him and his staff to be excellent. His name comes up a lot.
One is in Houston - A couple people I know have used him and have read good things about him. One is in Nashville. Both of them are not part of the site.
What I found about the 3 above is that they are willing to take on post lasik cases - Some of the others whose names came up don't.
There is another part of this site whose name came up in MN.
In addition to this site, which does an excellent job in educating people, you can try reading some of the industry magazines such as OSN www.osnsupersite.com , Review of Ophthalmology www.revophth.com and EyeWorld www.eyeworld.org - Some of these TOP surgeons write articles or are interviewed.
Someone definitely needs to put together a TOP 100 Lasik Surgeon site based on solid research. It may be tough to get all the details currently considering not all states require full disclosure and transperancy.
That day will come. Everyone deserves to know this.
I agree with seeing a corneal specialist in addition to one of these TOP guys and your way of thinking that if you do it again, it will only be with one of these TOP guys - That is the way I will go and should have gone from day one.

He would have been one of the 5 on my list. Although he's not 1 or 2 on my list, still an excellent choice.

I was reading about Doc C, he wrote the book (or one of them ) on LASIK. He has all three lasers Alcon Ladar, Visix4 , and Allegretto, He says he prefers the Allegretto because he gets the best results, I was questioning my decision but now feel better after hearing it from him.

The doctor he's talking about going to see is very experienced in correcting other doctors mistakes.

You're correct, I don't think many do. However, I could name 5 or 6 1st rate doctors in Southern California who do. The name mentioned above being one of them.

I have found only a few and he wasn't a name that came up when I asked 3 different docs. along with my own research.
One name came up in the midwest area amongst many docs and research for this type of stuff.

Well, yes I think so. Like I've said before, Southern California attracts some of the best doctors in the world. There are a number of REALLY good Lasik doctors in the Beverly Hills area, along with other areas of So Cal. And many of the these top guys, fix many many mistakes done by other doctors. There are two guys in particular who are really considered to be "the best of the best" that I would recommend to anyone. I wish I had known about these guys before and picked one for my procedure. The name listed above is also a very excellent doctor who would be on my list of top 5 best in So Cal, but he's not number 1.
