6 month checkup MANY questions and concerns...

Postby ltess » Wed Sep 22, 2010 2:27 pm

I had my 6 month checkup today. I had Custom Vue Wavefront LAISK my contact rx was -5.75 right eye and -5.25 left eye with 7mm pupils. I am still experiencing halos, starbursts, glare. My starbursts have not gotten even a tiny bit better.
My doctor immediately begin talking fast and trying to reassure me everything is normal once I began to ask questions. I wanted to scream that I am not going to bring a lawsuit, I just want answers!!

I told him I have increased floaters since the 1st month after surgery and denied that LASIK can cause this. He set me up an appt with the Retinal specialist to have the floaters checked out. He then did admit that I have a FEW minor wrinkles but that they were so small and my vision is so good that they shouldn't be fixed or worried about. (Is this true)? He also said everyone who has LASIK has some type of small wrinkles ???? I might add that at my 8 week checkup he told me I had not wrinkles.

The questions I have:

1) Could the wrinkles be causing the starbursts and halos to continue? Will the wrinkles get better?

2) Should I bother to see the Retinal specialist or is that a waste of money?

3) He said I now have a tiny Astigmatism in my left eye. He said it shows that I had a small one on my wavefront map before surgery. BUT I did not have it after the surgery only now at my 6 month checkup. This is concerning me.

4) I have starbursts in the bright sunlight...Isn't that unusual??

UGGGhhhh...Why did I ever do this to myself???

Thanks for any feedback it all help,

Hello, Lora. I'm only writing this since no one else has written any response to your post. I sympathize with your situation. Your comment, "Why did I ever do this to myself?" really resonates with me. I've had that thought many times over the last 2 1/2 years. In my case, my eyes are about the same now as they were immediately after the surgery. There was no regression that I'm aware of. In other words, the problem (a slight overcorrection on one eye and virtually no change in the level of astigmatism) existed immediately after the surgery. It had nothing to do with healing.

Starbursts occurring in the bright sunlight does seem unusual. I thought that they were supposed to result from the pupil dilating beyond the area of corneal correction. In bright light, the pupils should be small enough where that wouldn't be a problem.

Your doctor sounded evasive, which seems to be fairly common, unfortunately. I spoke to the optometrist, not the surgeon, when I went in after a year. She answered my questions politely but did not make much of an effort to understand exactly what had gone wrong. I still have to contact them again in order to get ALL of my questions answered to my satisfaction. I guess I've been procrastinating, possibly out of fear, fear of the unknown.

I hope things work out for you. You are not alone. You are never alone. I just said a prayer for you and will continue to pray that your eye problems are resolved.
