People who are hyperopic do not have enough room in the anterior chamber of the eye to accommodate a
phakic intraocular lens (P-IOL).
Refractive Lens Exchange (RLE) may be appropriate, however all ability to change focus to see near objects (accommodation) will be lost, therefor the patient would immediately require reading glasses. RLE tends to be best for people well past age 40 when
presbyopia has limited their near vision already.
